WHAT I WAS THINKING
The Beauty of Becoming
Lately, I've been thinking about the many layers of being a woman. The strength we've gained, the wisdom we've gathered, the roles we've played, and the parts of ourselves we're still discovering.
I've been fascinated by Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and desire, and the idea of a feminine renaissance: a woman rediscovering her fire, embracing her individuality, and coming fully into her own. I wanted to create something that celebrates all of her. Not just the beauty the world sees, but the extraordinary woman beneath the surface.
WHAT I SAW
Born of the Sea
I've spent a lifetime collecting little treasures along Bermuda's shores, but lately, I've been seeing seashells through entirely new eyes. Their delicate curves conceal extraordinary strength; their intricate forms are shaped by the relentless forces of the sea, yet no two emerge quite alike.
I found myself returning to the mental image of Venus rising from her shell, born from the depths of the ocean, unapologetic in her beauty and entirely herself. It felt like the perfect meeting of everything I'd been exploring: the beautiful complexity of being a woman, the power of transformation, and the extraordinary things that emerge when we allow ourselves to become who we truly are.
WHAT I DESIGNED
Nature, Reimagined
I began exploring the seashell in all its beautiful forms, from the wonderfully organic shapes found in nature to more refined, architectural interpretations inspired by Art Deco.
Three distinct design directions took shape, each leading me through countless sketches, sculpting, and refinements as I searched for the perfect balance of softness and strength.
I wanted to capture the sensual movement of a shell while creating something distinctly my own. Eventually, the final design emerged: sculptural, graceful, and open to the light.
WHAT I MADE
Bringing the Venus Shell to Life
With the design finally taking shape, I returned to my favourite place: my studio bench, where I sculpted each delicate curve, ridge, and opening by hand in wax. I wanted the jewellery to become part of the woman wearing it, with beautiful open spaces revealing glimpses of skin or light through.
Something to treasure year after year, a celebration of her strength, her wisdom, her individuality, and every version of herself she's been along the way.
A reminder that the most extraordinary thing a woman can become is entirely herself.
