My new Tide Pool Collection is a deeply reflective fusion of the candy coloured gemstone droplets that I was drawn to when I first started making jewellery fifteen years ago, suspended from a cluster formation that incorporates my new textural casting techniques. It is inspired by the colours and intricate coral formations living in Bermuda’s sparkling shallow coastal pools. The collection feels like the perfect metaphor for both where I have come from and where I intend to go with my jewellery exploration.
The Tide Pool Collection explores the colonies of barnacles, corals and shells found sparkling in tide pools along Bermuda's shores. The gems dangle and move with the gentle rippling flow of the water. Each piece in this collection is one-of-a-kind and every stone’s placement was thoughtfully considered as I was making the collection. Playing with a myriad of such beautiful colours was a treat after years of thinking in pink!
Tide Pools are a transitional zone between land and sea, so for a design that takes inspiration from my obsession with flower gardens on land, with coral gardens below the water’s surface I thought it would be fitting. The idea of “ocean flowers” is something I’ll be reflecting on as I create new pieces over the next few years. I hope you are as excited to see what unfolds as I am!
